HOW DO I USE DAILYBREATH?

We recently launched DailyBreath 3.0 following several prototypes and MVP’s that have provided customer validation and valuable insights. We are so excited to share with you the features and benefits that we thought a brief tutorial might convey how to use DailyBreath and how to benefit from its continued use.

Setup

Once you’ve downloaded the app from the Apple App or Google Play store you will have to register. Fill out your e-mail address and click send. You will receive a link that when you click on the link you will be verified and now registered. The 1st time you access the app you will be asked your geo-location preference, and whether you wish to receive a notification to check your DailyBreath Forecast at 6am. If you permit us to use your location, we are able to provide you with the location of your Last 5 flare-ups as well as share anonymously the location of this your flare-ups on the DailyBreath Community Flare-Up Map thus crowdsourcing symptoms to provide everyone an understanding of exposure risk at that location. Your morning notification helps you get in the habit of checking the DailyBreath Forecast, the daily weather and environmental conditions in your area, and via the DailyBreath Community Flare-Up map, where others like you have experienced symptoms in your community. Next you will be prompted whether you have allergies, asthma, or both (allergic asthma). This piece of information will configure the DailyBreath Risk Index calculation based on your condition.

DailyBreath Forecast Pop-Up

Once you’ve made these selections, the DailyBreath Forecast Pop-Up will come up based on your geo-location. The DailyBreath Forecast consists of the DailyBreath Risk Index # with a radial dial that is colored green, yellow, and red according to the Risk Index #. The AQI, with a corresponding Air Quality Flag (in the US) is displayed along with the PM 2.5 measurement and the Ozone measurement. Below is the pollen count/level and the pollen type including species if available. The Prevailing Factors are those weather variables that have influenced the calculation of the DailyBreath Risk Index based on our proprietary algorithm. Below this data is an impact summary: a description of why the conditions displayed may impact your condition along with recommendations of preventative actions you can take to reduce or avoid experiencing symptoms. A Share button on the DailyBreath Forecast Pop-Up allows you to share DailyBreath with friends to encourage them to download it and become part of the community. You may click the X in the upper right corner to close the pop-up to display the home screen which defaults to a view of the Community Flare-Up map with your location centered.

Home Screen

The home screen consists of a search bar to input other locations to search for a DailyBreath Forecast, a map that toggles between a Last 5 Flare-ups Map and the Community Flare-Up Map, and a navigation scheme on the bottom with ads displayed on the very bottom of the screen. These ads are often related to relevant products and services to support those with allergies and asthma.

So, let’s start with the Map. When you record a flare (symptom) it marks the location on the map with a pin. If you have allergies alone, the pin will be green. If you have allergic asthma, the pin will be purple. And, if you have asthma alone, the pin will be blue. Generally, marking the location according to your condition may provide insights into the extent to which allergens or pollutants are impacting your symptoms.

On the toggled maps a Share button is displayed on the map that allows you to share DailyBreath with friends to encourage them to download it and become part of the community.

Note you may also click on any location on the map and it will place that address in the search bar and provide you the DailyBreath Forecast for that location. So, if you are going away for the day or on vacation to another location you can see the DailyBreath Forecast for that area. Note the change in the DailyBreath Risk Index and you’ll understand quickly how dynamically your risk changes based on the weather and environmental exposures associated with a specific location. On the bottom right is a button that centers you back to your geo-location if you’ve searched for the DailyBreath Forecast at another location. On the bottom left is a DailyBreath Risk Index Icon that will bring up your DailyBreath Forecast Pop-Up should you want to review it again. On the bottom of your Home Screen you may access the following features from Left to Right; Friends, Discussion Board, Record Flare, Videos, and Menu.

Friends

With Friends, the first time you enter Friends, it will ask you whether you wish to connect your Contacts on the phone. Once this is done, they are available for you to Share DailyBreath so they may download the app and become part of your Friends List or what we like to call your DailyBreath Caregiver Network. But, ultimately its about creating a means for all to share their asthma journey. Once they download and register, they will be available in the Friend search. Once you find them you can send a request to them asking to be added to your Friends List.

You may chat with any Friend in your Friends List. You may also create a group to chat with simultaneously, this could be a group that functions as your DailyBreath Caregiver Network. It could be a parent, grandparent, the school nurse, a teacher, one or two friends who also have asthma. The idea is to have access to others in the DailyBreath Community that you can communicate with during your day about your asthma concerns or needs.

Discussion Board

The next option is our Discussion Board. The discussion board allows community users to discuss any topic that they want to share with others related to allergies and asthma. This is another way of communicating this shared asthma journey. The discussions are organized by topical tags, by most recent submission, and by topics with the most replies. Tags may include immunotherapy, allergens, COVID, and more.

Record Flare

The Record Flare option is where you identify your onset symptoms when you feel those signals so that we are capturing the environmental insights associated with those immediate symptoms. Besides selecting the type of symptom, you are asked to identify the severity of those symptoms.

If you select any symptom that has been recognized as a common symptom of COVID, you will receive a prompt that recognizes this and suggests you reach out to your provider for further guidance. The prompt is activated if you select one or more COVID related symptoms. Some symptoms are unique to allergies (sneezing, itchy/watery eyes/redness, itchy or irritated skin) or asthma (wheezing, hard and fast breathing). You should note symptoms that are unique to COVID like fever, fatigue (feeling weak and tired), or dry coughing.

Additional questions will be added in future updates. These questions will define your activity at the time of symptoms, like exercising. For now, though, we want to capture these symptoms of triggers outdoors as quickly as possible when you are experiencing them.

Videos

The Videos option makes educational videos available in the following categories: Self-care, Symptoms, Triggers, and Asthma Management. Each screen has six corresponding videos related to the category. Click on the image and the video interface will open in a new screen. Click on play to launch the video in a browser and when finished closed the screen and return to the DailyBreath app within the Video module.

Menu

Finally, the last option is the Menu, the menu includes a prompt to Upgrade, navigation to Friends, Discussion Board, or Videos, and Settings.

Settings

Settings opens up the following links: a detailed profile, options for Scheduled Notifications, links to an FAQ page, the End User License Agreement, Terms of Use, and Privacy Policy. There is also a link to the DailyBreath Apple App or Google Play Store to rate the app and submit a review. Finally, you may contact us via e-mail. You may also log out from the settings screen.

Profile

As for the detailed profile, you may submit a picture so that people may identify you by photo in the Friends or Discussion Board feature. Then, there are fields for your first and last name. There is a field for the country code of your phone number and a field for your phone number. The phone number is necessary for the Friends module to function so that you may find and add Friends within the community or accept their Friend requests. Your phone number is never displayed to others within the app, only viewable within your profile. Your phone number will never be shared with any external party. Within settings you will be asked to share your age and your gender (at birth) as well as two universal questions regarding whether you have food allergies or allergies to insect stings.

Then depending on whether you have selected allergies, allergic asthma, or asthma alone, you will receive specific questions to fill out. For allergies, you will be asked whether you have had an allergy test. You will be asked what are your known allergen? Are you undergoing allergy shots or drops? If yes, you may opt to receive automatic reminders. Are you taking allergy medicines and which ones?

For asthma, you are asked about whether you have taken an oral steroid more than once in the past year? Have you been to the ER for your asthma this year? Have you been hospitalized for your asthma this year? These are important questions to gauge the severity of your condition and understand whether your asthma is well-controlled. Then we ask about your biologic medicines, controller medications, and relief/rescue medications.
